Many people wondered why would the armies use horses if this is future tense...ie, it hasn't happened yet, this war of Gog/Magog and it's obviously going to happen in our present future so why with all the "Technology" today would they (the North and all those with them) need horses! Obama wants to appeal to the Liberal Christians out there and according to a recent survey of what "Christians" say is okay to worship...he will find many waiting and wanting in that field. So, Our poor undiscerning brethren who are already deceived by Warren's EMERGENT CHURCH Hertics will happily bleat their way with him as he 'sheds light' on Obama's "potential." My other objection to this is; Warren is not using this forum to ask the tough questions to Obama, like "Why Senator Obama do you feel it is morally okay to abort a baby even if it survives an abortion? or Late term Abortion? Or Why do you not feel a moral obligation to defend Marriage as a covenant between man and woman and God?" Do you think Warren is going to ask such questions? No! He won't! He will do his best to portray Obama in a positive light because ultimately this is about Warren and his political agenda...to unite the world under one umbrella of a false faith and then usher in God's kingdom on Earth! John McCain wasn’t the only U.S. politician in Mexico City today. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was here on business, and the pair toured the Basilica of the Virgin of Guadalupe located just north of the city.
“I think he’s going to win,” Bush, the president’s brother, told reporters. “He just needs to be himself and not let Sen. [Barack] Obama redefine himself.”

At the Basilica, McCain was greeted by Monsignor Diego Monroy Ponce,who later placed one hand on McCain’s forehead and another on his shoulder as he offered the expected Republican nominee a blessing. Cindy McCain stood next to her husband with her head bowed and her eyes closed.

McCain also laid a wreath of white roses – traditional in the legend of the Virgin of Guadalupe – on the alter, near the base of the painting. He then ascended to the “papal balcony,” named because John Paul II visited there, and looked out over the Italian-style piazza, waiving to those gathered below.

After the tour, McCain also met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.
Before a lunch with the American Chamber of Mexico, he spoke brief fly to reporters. As he did in Canada, McCain delivered a veiled attack on Obama’s interest in renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement. Obama would like stronger protections for workers and for the environment and has threatened to pull out of the treaty if changes aren’t made. McCain argues this would endanger the U.S. relationship with Mexico and Canada.
Still, perhaps mindful of voter skepticism about trade, McCain suggested he, too, would be willing to consider changes to the treaty.
“I am disappointed at the suggestion that the United States should unilaterally reopen NAFTA,” he said. “If there are issues that exist between our countries — whether it be the United States, Canada and Mexico, or other nations with whom we have engaged and ratified treaties – the best way to do that is not in a unilateral fashion, but mutual respect of sovereignty of our respective nations.”

Today crude oil prices in the US closed at over $139.00 a barrel. Goldman Sachs predicts that Oil will reach $170.00 a barrel this summer which will translate into 5.00 and up for a gallon of gas at the pump. Rubber is on the rise, tires are now 5% higher, food prices are higher, natural gas for heating is already set to be higher this winter. Congress has made no legitimate moves on solving this crisis. But then again, this is a global crisis not just an 'American' one. Floods in the Midwest of the US have eaten into our crops and will cost billions in damage...what next?

Remember friends, those of you who Know the Lord keep fervent in prayer and trust in the promises that we have been given from the Lord.

Efforts are under way to prevent more flooding along the Mississippi River, in the wake of billion-dollar losses.

Nearly two dozen levees on the key US commercial waterway have overflowed, swamping small towns and thousands of acres of fertile farmland.

Grain and meat prices have soared on the back of concerns about short supplies.

The cost of the disaster, the worst flooding in the Midwest in 15 years, may end up rivalling that of 1993 Midwest floods that caused more than $20 billion (£508 million) in damage and 48 deaths.

This month's flooding has caused few deaths and the damage has yet to be fully assessed.

Estimates are that five million acres across the Midwest have been ruined and will not produce a crop this year.

The prospects of smaller crops have jolted commodity markets, food producers and exporters. Chicago Board of Trade corn prices traded at a record $8.07 (£4) a bushel. For 40 years, it has traded mostly in a range of $2-4 (£1-£2) a bushel.

President George W Bush is to travel to Iowa to survey flood damage in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City and meet with emergency workers and state and local officials.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain will also be in the state to inspect the damage and response.

His Democratic rival in the November presidential election, Senator Barack Obama, was in Quincy, Illinois, earlier this week.

Venezuela fired live missiles from fighter jets and ships Friday during exercises intended to demonstrate the firepower of President Hugo Chavez's military.

The televised war games allowed the military to showcase some of the hardware bought under Chavez, who says Venezuela's main threat is the United States. A US Navy plane last month flew over the same Caribbean island base, drawing a diplomatic protest from Venezuela.

US officials said the plane accidentally strayed into Venezuelan airspace during a counter-drug mission, but Chavez accused Washington of espionage.

Defense Minister Gustavo Rangel Briceno commanded the troops during Friday's exercises, ordering them to fire at mock "enemy units." It was the first time in 13 years that such drills were held with live missile fire at sea, he said.

Latin American countries including Colombia and Peru have voiced concern about billions of dollars of arms that Chavez has purchased, but Rangel said new weaponry is needed to keep Venezuela safe from the US.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda's second-in-command, has called on Palestinians to step up attacks on Israel, according to a new audio clip.

Increased suicide and rocket attacks were the only way to end Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, a voice attributed to the Egyptian-born al-Qaeda deputy said in the message posted online on Wednesday.

The message marked the 41st anniversary of the 1967 Middle East war, which Arabs refer to as the "naksa" or "setback", a banner accompanying the 11-minute audio file read.

Israel occupied the West Bank, including Arab East Jerusalem, Gaza, the Sinai and the Golan Heights during the war.

In the audio clip, the speaker told Palestinians: "Step up your martyrdom-seeking operations, and increase your missiles and ambushes, as there is no solution but this.

"Salvation of the Muslim nation is through the march of its sons on the path of jihad."

Palestinian focus

The speaker also branded Hosni Mubarak, Egypt's president, a traitor for not opening his borders to Palestinians.

"The brother from Gaza is refused entry [by Egypt], while an Israeli tourist is allowed to enter without a visa," he said.
Al-Qaeda has vowed attacks on Jews both from within, and outside, Israel.

The audio clip follows recent statements attributed to Osama bin Laden, al-Qaeda's leader, placing more emphasis on the Palestinian issue.

Last week, a tape reported to be from bin Laden tape urged Muslims to break the blockade of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and fight Arab governments that deal with Israel.

Al-Zawahiri urged Muslims to support fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq group, which he said posed the biggest threat to US-led forces in the country, in the last message attributed to him on April 22.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - U.S. consumers can add chicken to the list of foods that will cost more this year.

Prices on everything from soup to nuts have moved higher as food companies pass on to consumers sharply higher costs for grain, meat, and fuel.

Chief executives at the two largest U.S. chicken companies said on Thursday that chicken prices must go higher to offset the industry's higher production costs.

A swift rise in the price of corn, a major feed stock, has been particularly troublesome.

Chicken companies have been unable to raise chicken prices fast enough to offset the higher feed costs, Richard Bond, chief executive at Tyson Foods Inc, said on Thursday.

"We have attained some (higher) pricing but not at the same pace as our inputs have increased, especially in chicken. The lag of higher priced corn is just now coming through the products that we are taking to market," Bond said during his webcast presentation at the BMO Capital Markets agriculture and protein conference in New York City.

Tyson is the largest U.S. meat company and the second largest U.S. chicken producer. Feed costs for the company should be $600 million higher this fiscal year than the previous year, said Bond.

Corn prices have soared to a record $6.50 per bushel this year amid strong demand from exporters, livestock and chicken producers, and the makers of the biofuel ethanol.

SUPPLY REDUCED, CONTRACTS CHANGED

In order to raise chicken prices enough to offset these higher costs, Pilgrim's Pride Corp, the largest U.S. chicken producer, has cut production 5 percent and shortened contract terms with customers.

"Prices of grain have escalated so quickly this last fall and into the first part of the year that we have been unable to efficiently pass those prices along as quickly as they have gone up," Pilgrim's Chief Executive Clint Rivers told the BMO conference.

To more quickly pass on the higher costs, Pilgrims just recently shortened contract terms with customers to 90 to 180 days from previous year-long terms.

While Pilgrim's has reduced production 5 percent, Rivers said the industry, as a whole, needs to cut production 3 to 4 percent to generate the higher prices needed to cover costs.

Recently the industry has reduced by 2 to 3 percent the number of eggs and young chicks placed in the production cycle, but it will be early this summer before that reduced supply reaches grocery stores.

"In the summertime we usually have our strongest demand for chicken, so typically you would not expect to be seeing egg sets drop this time of year. So I think it is pretty significant," said Rivers.

"We should begin to see some supply affected by this (drop in egg sets) in June," he said.

There has been a substantial cloud of denial looming over the American public that there really is a "Food Shortage" in the world. I think that is all about to change. According to this article the increase in 'feed' and 'oil' although oil was not mentioned we know that oil is affecting every business on the globe, is finally going to filter into our price for Eggs and Chicken. What the industry is doing is cutting back production to compensate cost, but also going to charge more for their product. This is what we saw happen in Asian Countries and Middle Eastern countries when rice prices rose. Production slowed, supply dropped, demand rose, price went higher, cost to produce and transport and export rose, supply continued to drop and now there's riots. Every nation has been affected by the food shortages, thus far. France, Greece, India, Pakistan, Africa, every where but the US was for a time being spared. No more. There is also a little known fact that a fungus is attacking wheat crops. So, the rice at the Chinese restaurant, the buns at McDonalds, this is all about to change! I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Truly I am. But if you don't get it from someone who is actually trying to warn you out of Love who are you going to hear it from. The Lord will make provision, we don't have to panic and hoard. I think, because of this and many other signs, that are occurring at the same time that the Lord's return isn't that far off. Rifts threaten to overshadow South American union

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Twelve South American countries founded a union on Friday aimed at boosting economic integration and political cohesion, but the region's bitter rivalries stymied ambitious plans on defense and trade.

The heads of states signed a treaty that creates the South American Union of Nations, or Unasur, as well as plans for energy, infrastructure and financing projects.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva hailed Unasur, which aspires to become like the European Union, as a sign that South America was becoming a "global actor" and said the differences between governments were a sign of vitality.

"The instability some want to see in our continent is a sign of life, especially political life," he said. "There's no democracy without people (protesting) in the streets."

Unasur includes a rotating presidency, biannual meetings of foreign ministers and a parliament in Bolivia, marking progress toward greater unity in a region that is enjoying a period of relative economic stability.

As the major regional power, Brazil has for years been trying to unite South America as a counterbalance to U.S. and European economic interests in the region.

But South America has been strained by political divisions pitting U.S. critics such as Bolivia and Venezuela that favor state intervention in the economy against market-friendly countries like Chile and Colombia, with closer U.S. ties.

The new group falls short of ambitious plans for economic and security integration, including the original intention to merge the South American customs union Mercosur and the Andean Community trading bloc.

Unasur members are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.

'DEAD POINT'

Colombia turned down the presidency because of its tensions with Venezuela and Ecuador and rejected a Brazilian proposal to create a regional defense council. Chile will lead the group first instead.

Colombia says its problems with terrorism make military cooperation difficult, in a reference to the FARC rebel group, whose fighters it has accused Ecuador of harboring.

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said after a meeting with Lula that Unasur members should classify as terrorists all groups that violently attack democracy in the region.

Unlike Colombia, Brazil and other countries in the region do not consider the FARC a terrorist group.

"Unfortunately our relations with the Colombian government are in a very deplorable situation, at a dead point," Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa told reporters.

Former Ecuadorean President Rodrigo Borja turned down the post of secretary-general, saying it lacked decision-making powers. Despite the obvious tensions at the summit, leaders said it was an important step forward for a region that has rarely spoken with one voice.

"Unasur means that we can be a global actor, that we have a single voice that can be heard," Chilean President Michelle Bachelet said.

After Colombia's rejection of the defense council, the other 11 members agreed to establish a task force to present a revised proposal within 3 months.

Lula met the region's more radical left-wing leaders of Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia before the summit, urging them to put aside differences with other countries in the region, a senior diplomat told Reuters.

Venezuela blamed Washington on Friday for fueling disputes through its ally Colombia.

"The empire is counter-attacking ... Washington is rebuilding the oligarchies" in South America, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said in a TV interview after the summit.

The United States is mobilizing oligarchies and opposition politicians in Bolivia and Argentina, he said.

You must check out this story! Talk about bitting the hand that feeds you! Let's use some good ol fashion "common sense." First of all, the price of crude oil is going up for several reasons, (1) The value of the Dollar is depreciating, meaning it's on it's way to worthless! We have excessive debt, we owe more than what we have in liquid assets, we are in debt to foreign countries including China, and Saudi Arabia. (2) Iran and Venezuela are pursuing OPEC to dump the US and stop selling oil to us, Iran went forward two weeks ago and stopped selling Oil in Dollars and now uses only Euros and Yen. (3) OPEC doesn't have to 'pump more' oil, there's not an increase in demand only strain on our economy that is making the price jump.

Here are some questions I would like to ask Congress,

1. If you "sue" OPEC, which I don't even think is possible, but say you could, do you think this CARTEL is going to pay up or somehow be convinced they have wronged us in any way. They don't like us anymore than the Shiite Crazy nut jobs in Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, need I go on?

2. Are you, US Congress, prepared to hand over pork barrel projects money to help us out when we have to change our currency to the Euro to buy gas at a potential $200.00 a barrel?

3. Since you have cut adding to our strategic oil reserves, does that mean that once OPEC gets a clue and either stops the supply or changes it's currency, that we are going to then tap into our supply which will only last our country 3 months?

4. Ok, Congress now that the picture has been painted and you see what kind of mess you have gotten us into by not allowing us to drill on our own land, and now that the only and major supplier to the US is about to render us crippled, are you going to just establish Sharia, hand over the constitution to the Saudi's to amend your act of stupidity!!!!!

Oil Problems Continue to Mount

Saudi ready to pump more oil but sees no need: U.S. aide
RIYADH (Reuters) - The world's top oil exporter Saudi Arabia told the world's largest energy consumer the United States it was ready to pump more oil, but saw no need to do so for now, a U.S. official said on Friday.

On his second visit to the kingdom this year, U.S. President George W. Bush met Saudi King Abdullah on Friday to renew his appeal for more oil from OPEC to tame record oil prices.

The kingdom reiterated its pledge to give customers all the oil they want, but saw no unmet demand, Stephen Hadley, Bush's national security adviser, told reporters after the meeting.

U.S. oil prices hit a record near $128 a barrel on Friday. The U.S. says more oil would help lower prices, while OPEC officials blame the high price on factors beyond their control, such as speculation and the weak dollar. (for full article click on title)

Another item today was an explosion that occurred in Lagos, Nigeria. 100 people were killed in the explosion. Apparently (according to Reuters) many of the nation's poor attempt to drill into the pipeline to "steal" gas. No doubt that this 'accident' will affect oil prices as well.

Iran no longer sells crude oil in dollars and has switched to dealing exclusively in Euros and in some cases Yen.

I have been doing my own 'reconnaissance' over the past three weeks and noted that gas prices are rising daily and the average price increase in a week is .08-.10 cents. At this rate unleaded gas would be $5.00 in California by July. Unless something drastic happened like OPEC deciding to dump the dollar as well, then you can just toss all the analysts mumbo jumbo and realize the whole economy of the United States would take a nose dive.

With all this chaos, economic instability, food shortages, earthquakes, and tornadoes, can there be reason to rejoice and praise God? Absolutely.

I met a "sister" yesterday. A sister in the Lord. Many times I ventured into this same Blockbuster store and have made small chit chat with the manager there. Yesterday we had a real conversation. Sparked by her hair of all things. See this brave mom shaved her head for her son and 'every son or daughter' who has Leukemia. She went on to tell me her son, a college student, has been done with 'maintenance' since January and his blood count is right on for the first quarter of this year!

"A walking, talking, breathing Miracle-that boy is," from the proud lips of a loving mother. I praised God with her and said, "There are still things to be praised!" Another praise was finding out she is a fellow believer. In a time and place where I can feel like a lone ranger in a sea of unbelief. The Lord is very much at work right now. People are coming to the Lord and being saved, Lives are being transformed, Friendships are being found. We need each other now more then ever. And I pray that whoever stumbles upon this site realizes the most important aspect of this site is to show you that the Scriptures are coming to pass and that God is on the Throne and His promise to Return is still on schedule. Be ready- in season and out of season.

Oil Records Shattered as Price Hike Continues

TEHRAN (FNA)- Oil prices spiked to new highs Tuesday in the latest frenzied trade driven by concerns over violence in key producer Nigeria and the weak US currency.

New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for June delivery, leapt as high as 122.73 dollars per barrel, an all-time intraday high, before settling to a closing record high of 121.84 dollars, up 1.87 dollars.

London's Brent North Sea crude for June also reached an all-time high at 120.99 dollars a barrel, before slipping back to settle at a new high of 120.31 dollars for a gain of 2.32 dollars.

Runaway oil prices have almost doubled in the past year and have surged by more than 20 dollars since the start of 2008.

"Market headlines are dominated by the impact of currency fluctuations, geopolitics in the form of actual and potential threats to supply in Nigeria, Iraq and Iran, plus better-than-expected recent US economic data," said Barclays Capital analyst Kevin Norrish.

"Of these three drivers, we think it is supply losses that are the key driver at present."

Nigerian militants attacked an oil ship off the coast of the west African country and took two people hostage over the weekend.

Nigeria, Africa's largest oil producer, has seen an upsurge in violent attacks on its oil industry in the past two years.

Events surrounding Iran, the world's fourth biggest oil producer, gave added support to prices on Tuesday.

Andrew Busch, analyst at BMO Capital Markets, took Bush administration responsible for the price hikes caused by Iran concerns, saying that it is the "rumors of US action against Iran circulating in the markets" that affected oil and the dollar.

Iran said Monday it would reject any offer that violates its right to master the full nuclear fuel cycle after world powers said they had prepared a so-called new package to end the atomic crisis.

The United States and its Western allies have accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative document to substantiate their allegations. Iran has denied the charges and insisted that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.

Iran is under three rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's illegitimate calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment, saying the demand is politically tainted and illogical.

Iran has so far ruled out halting or limiting its nuclear work in exchange for trade and other incentives, and says it will only negotiate with the UN nuclear watchdog.

Tehran has repeatedly said that it considers its nuclear case closed after it answered the UN agency's questions about the history of its nuclear program.

Record-breaking oil prices have sparked widespread international concern among consumer nations.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries has already rejected the call by the US and some of its European allies, with OPEC Secretary General, Chakib Khelil, saying last month that there was no need to increase output to counter soaring oil prices.

The organization, which produces about 40 percent of the world's oil, has held its daily output ceiling at 29.67 million barrels since March.

Iran's OPEC Governor Hossein Kazempour Ardebili said pressures on producer countries to raise oil output are politically driven.

"Oil spikes have nothing to do with demand and supply. The world's oil reserves are at their highest level and there is enough energy in the market," Kazempour Ardebili said at the 11th International Energy Forum (IEF) in Rome last month.

The Iranian official blamed stock market slumps in the developed countries, including the United States and the continued depreciation of the US dollar, coupled with low interest rates, for the soaring oil prices.

His remarks came after earlier comments by many world analysts and OPEC officials, including Iran's oil minister Gholam Hossein Nozari, that members of the oil cartel had no role in oil spikes since the high prices are a function of factors other than demand and supply.

Kuwaiti Oil Minister Mohammad al-Olaim last week said that OPEC may hold an extraordinary meeting on oil prices before a scheduled conference in September and did not appear to rule out higher production.

However, Libya's acting oil minister Chukri Ghanem recently indicated that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries could not pump more crude.

ImageTEHRAN, April 30 (Reuters) - Iran, the world's fourth-largest oil producer, is conducting all its crude trading in euro and yen, instead of the U.S. dollar, an Iranian official was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

Iran has been reducing its exposure to the dollar as the United States has ratcheted up sanctions because of a dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme. In December, an official said 90 percent of its oil export earnings were outside the dollar.

"All of Iran's oil trading is being done with euro and yen," Hojjatollah Ghanimifard, international affairs director of the National Iranian Oil Company, told Fars News Agency.

"We agreed with all the buyers of Iran's crude to trade oil in currencies other than dollar," he said. "In Europe, Iran's crude is being sold in euro, in Asia in euro and yen, and trading with yen has not only been in Japan."

Ghanimifard could not be immediately reached to confirm the report.

In the past, Iranian officials have said that oil remained priced in the U.S. dollar but with actual payments carried out in other currencies.

Iran said it earned $70 billion from oil exports in the year to March, windfall revenues on the back of soaring crude prices.

International crude prices recently hit almost $120 a barrel, while Iran media said Iranian crude had risen above $102 a barrel.

The United States, leading efforts to isolate Tehran which it accuses of seeking nuclear weapons, has slapped sanctions on Iranian banks and other bodies, moves that prompted many foreign banks to cut dollar dealings with Iran or stop all business.

(IsraelNN.com) Fuel prices in Israel will rise to an all-time high of $7.19 a gallon at midnight Wednesday – a rise of 4.6 percent. Self-service 95 octane gas will be priced at 6.58 shekels a liter, with 96 octane 6.60 a liter – a rise of 29 agorot per liter for both types.

Gas prices have risen for three months straight, rising 5.6 percent since the beginning of the year.

But if for some strange reason someone else stopped by here I'd like to note that I am not the only one talking about the 'World Famine' in terms of it's prophetic significance.

From my human and uneducated perspective I do not see how the economy is going to bounce back from this one in the near future. If it were to somehow pull out of this quandry it would seem to me that it would be an act of some sort of Charismatic Super Power World Leader, aka the 'Anti-christ?' In my opinion, and I don't have the background to make such a leap but just follow my thinking, (1)the mass global food shortage + (2) the falling global economy + (3) the rise in oil prices which is driving up food and (4) our dollar is at an all time low= the perfect precepitators for a storm that the Anti-Christ could possibly solve. I make this huge leap based of many other attributes as well not just the economy alone. To quote Al Gore, "We have to think Globally and act locally!" (I can't believe I can actually use something this man came up with! LOL see it is the end of days!) Okay, in all seriousness!
Globally the stage is being set, we see this with 'ethnos vs. ethnos', Famine, pestilences, the great falling away, global insecurity, etc. I do not doubt the Lord can come back at any time and take us out of here, I do know that God is a God of order and because a successive number of 'signs' must take place directly after the rapture I have always felt the Lord would then have everything in place shortly before His return for the bride. Now because of this orderly attribute I have remained watchful and ready and only see the continuation of His plan, again, The Lord alone is soverign and no one knows the day nor the hour, I know this and Praise Him for this. All I'm saying is Watch, and Be Ready!

Finance chiefs urge IMF keep closer eye on economy

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Financial leaders on Saturday urged the International Monetary Fund to sharpen its oversight of the global economy, which is burdened by surging food prices and a credit crisis that shows no end in sight.

As rich countries struggled to get a handle on financial turmoil that has rocked markets for nine months and worried the U.S. dollar may have fallen too far, emerging and developing nations wondered how much they would be spared from a crisis that may have already pushed the U.S. economy into recession.

Countries also fretted over increasing prices for food and other commodities, and related shortages of key staples that have fueled protests in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

They called on the IMF and World Bank to stand ready with emergency funding to help the poorer nations of the world in case financial market woes spread to their economies and the food crisis worsened.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson warned of "more bumps in the road."

"It took time to build up recent excesses and it will take time to work through the consequences," he told the IMF's policy-setting International Monetary and Financial Committee.

A year ago, finance ministers and central bank chiefs were basking in five years of strong world growth, unaware that a U.S. housing boom was about to go bust, triggering what may be the biggest financial shock since the Great Depression.

CHANGING ROLE

All of this has taken place at a time the IMF, traditionally a lender of last of resort in times of crises, was seeking a new role for itself amid a sharp decline in borrowing from emerging and developing economies.

The Washington-based lender has also sought to boost its relevance by giving emerging economies China, India, Brazil, Mexico and South Korea more voting power in the institution.

Its 185 member countries are likely to approve changes in their relative voting power later in April, although some nations that stand to lose from the shift -- such as Russia, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Egypt -- oppose the move.

The voting power changes will complete a number of institutional reforms that have been in the works for years. With those reforms nearly complete, financial leaders said it is time for the IMF to focus on its core mission of ensuring global financial stability.

While the G7 -- the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Japan -- stopped short of saying the U.S. economy was heading for recession after a meeting on Friday, European Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia acknowledged the risk of a U.S. downturn had increased.

Almunia said there was a potential for the turmoil to be more wrenching since uncertainty over the depth of the problems made it tougher for central banks to determine how to respond.

Paulson, who said an effective IMF was as important as ever to ensure stability of the global financial system, called on the fund to focus more intently on the alignment of the world's currencies and to move quickly to address dangers to market stability posed by rapidly expanding sovereign wealth funds.

Argentine Economy Minister Martin Lousteau cautioned that developing and emerging economies were not completely shielded from the crisis despite an unprecedented build-up in reserves.

"The crisis is very distinct and we may need to navigate in unchartered waters," he said.

The head of the United Arab Emirates' central bank, Sultan Nasser al-Suweidi, said the IMF's global reach made it uniquely positioned to consider lessons learned from the crisis.

"We see a central role for the fund as a forum for discussion and agreement on a set of coordinated and consistent policy responses, not only among industrial countries but encompassing emerging and developing countries as well," he said.

The United States military offensive against Iran may have begun with a swiftly escalating series of operations directed against the Mahdi Army, a Shiite militia led by cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, which had been observing a six month old cease-fire.

Overall circumstances in support of this conclusion:

* If attacks against Iran are to commence soon, then it makes sense to weaken those forces considered likely to irrupt in response to such an attack: Better to attack those forces first and separately, throwing them off balance and subjecting them to prolonged siege, thereby depleting their assets and revealing their larger weapon capabilities and stores, prior to an attack on Iran itself;

* If attacks against Iran are to commence soon, then it makes sense to force an end to the Mahdi Army six month cease-fire and to establish general conditions of conflict, during which accusations and operations against Iran would appear less unprovoked;

* The recent Bush and Cheney "peace" trips occurred within the planning and operating context of not only the current offensive, but also part of an event platform for operations whose scale and duration certainly extend beyond the forces deployed in the port of Basra during the last week in March, leaving the distinct impression US actions are plan rather than event driven.

Iraqi circumstantial elements:

* Operations against the Mahdi Army are large scale, coordinated attacks: Starting with raids and arrests in the Shiite neighborhoods in Baghdad and following-up immediately by a claimed 30,000 man police and Iraqi army offensive in Basra, which required months of planning and logistical preparation, even if largely imagined;

* The operations were timed to occur immediately after the Bush-Cheney Middle-East trips and before the administration's presentation of its force level plans to Congress;

* The operations were directed against what US and Iraqi governments say are Iranian assets in Iraq: US and Iraqi government officials have repeatedly charged that the elements attacked were those supported by Iran;

* The local police and army units in Basra were bypassed: long considered unreliable, the Basra police and army units, which were expected to melt away in any general insurrection, have been largely replaced (and possibly contained/detained) by units sent from the north in the Iraqi government's single largest military operation;

* Sadr's call for civil peace demonstrations in Baghdad to protest US attacks were met with an unprecedented three day, 24 hour curfew;

* Throughout all of this, US forces have been held almost entirely in reserve, with their likely use to occur as each Mahdi Army element is fixed in defensive positions by the Iraqi army, depending on circumstances, such as hitting Mahdi Army strong points, supporting weakening Iraqi government operations, and killing/capturing Sadr.

* General Petraeus claimed in a BBC interview about the Green Zone attacks, "Tehran had trained, equipped and funded insurgents who fired the barrage of mortars and rockets."

* General Petraeus in a videoconference with the president on Monday, during the briefings reported by officials, recommended taking "up to two months" to evaluate security in Iraq before considering additional withdrawals.

US circumstantial elements:

* According to a New York Times report on March 28, 2008, Bush attended "three days of briefings with senior advisers and military commanders on the situation in Iraq and the options for reducing the number of American troops there beyond the withdrawals already announced." Given Bush's limited attention span, his attending three days of briefings to discuss planned withdrawals is unbelievable, with plans to attack Iran the far more likely three day topic.

* As soon as the Iraqi operations began in Basra, Bush immediately and personally praised the Iraqi government for its actions, appearing to be part of planned propaganda offensive;

* In the same report, Bush described the operation in Basra as an "offensive" that "builds on the security gains of the surge";

* Finally, the same New York Times report says, "Mr. Bush also accused Iran of arming, training and financing the militias fighting against the Iraqi forces";

* Admiral Fallon's removal takes effect March 31, 2008;

* US Treasury Department undermines Iranian international banking operations.

What are the likely next steps toward an attack on Iran?

* Continuing the current tactical thrust of preemptive strikes against those likely to respond in an attack on Iran, major US military operations on the Iraq-Iran and Iraq-Syria border areas are very likely;

* Various Iranian assets within Iraq will likely be targeted by US and Iraqi government operations;

* Israel may attack Hamas in Gaza as well as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria;

* The likelihood of a US-Iran naval incident continues.

Muslims more numerous than Catholics: Vatican

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Islam has overtaken Roman Catholicism as the biggest single religious denomination in the world, the Vatican said on Sunday.

Monsignor Vittorio Formenti, who compiled the Vatican's newly-released 2008 yearbook of statistics, said Muslims made up 19.2 percent of the world's population and Catholics 17.4 percent.

"For the first time in history we are no longer at the top: the Muslims have overtaken us," Formenti told Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano in an interview, saying the data referred to 2006.

He said that if all Christian groups were considered, including Orthodox churches, Anglicans and Protestants, then Christians made up 33 percent of the world's population -- or about 2 billion people.

The Vatican recently put the number of Catholics in the world at 1.13 billion people. It did not provide a figure for Muslims, generally estimated at around 1.3 billion.

Formenti said that while the number of Catholics as a proportion of the world's population was fairly stable, the percentage of Muslims was growing because of higher birth rates.

He said the data on Muslim populations had been compiled by individual countries and then released by the United Nations, adding the Vatican could only vouch for its own statistics.

The FBI is warning that al Qaeda may be preparing a series of holiday attacks on U.S. shopping malls in Los Angeles and Chicago, according to an intelligence report distributed to law enforcement authorities across the country this morning. (Click here for full text.)

The alert said al Qaeda "hoped to disrupt the U.S. economy and has been planning the attack for the past two years."

Law enforcement officials tell ABCNews.com that the FBI received the information in late September and declassified it yesterday for wide distribution.

The alert, like similar FBI and Department of Homeland Security terror alerts issued over the past five years at holiday times, raised questions about the credibility of the information.

U.S. Treasury fears Islamic strings on investments
Requests assurances decisions won't be dictated by sharia law

The U.S. Treasury is struggling with how to handle any political or Islamic ramifications as Persian Gulf sovereign wealth funds look to make substantial investments in capital-poor American banks and securities firms. The crisis in mortgage-backed securities has created a need for new capital to enter financial markets after major financial institutions such as Bear Stearns and Carlyle Capital Corp. failed over the weekend.
The crisis is an opportunity for sovereign wealth funds that have prospered as the price of oil has soared over $110 a barrel.
WND previously reported sovereign wealth funds in six Persian Gulf countries, including Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, have now amassed $1.7 trillion, positioning them for attempts to control major banks and securities firms in the U.S.
The question is whether political strings will come with the investment from the Islamic oil-rich states.

Since the beginning of the year, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, two of the largest United Arab Emirate states, have been in discussions with the U.S. Treasury, offering reassurances that their investments in U.S. banks and security firms would not impose restrictions usually dictated by Islamic law, commonly know as sharia.
The Wall Street Journal reported today that Abu Dhabi sent last week a three-page letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and other Western finance officials spelling out a set of principles that will guide Abu Dhabi's investing philosophy.

The letter marks the first time Abu Dhabi has responded to Treasury requests for reassurance the Islamic states will not use investments in U.S. financial firms to seek political advantage.

The Wall Street Journal reported the letter was also sent to the finance ministers of the other Group of Seven industrialized nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the European Commission.
On Monday, Dubai announced the launch of the Investment Corporation of Dubai, a new multi-billion dollar sovereign wealth fund positioned to make investments in the global economy.
According to the Telegraph of London, the fund will be chaired by Sheik Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the emirate's ruler, but it will be operated separately from Dubai Holdings and Dubai International Capital.
Still, the new fund will be backed by state money, not just the personal wealth of the Maktoum family.
Paulson and Dubai are trying to avoid the repeat of a controversy that developed in 2006 when Dubai Ports World sought to acquire Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation, the London-based ports management firm that conducted operations at some 22 U.S. ports.
Still, despite the enthusiasm for foreign capital, the Treasury's effort to work with the Islamic sovereign wealth funds demonstrates, savvy investors in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are likely to be cautious when venturing into the U.S. market at this time.
The problem, they say, is that no one knows for sure whether the crisis triggered initially by mortgage foreclosures in the sub-prime market has peaked.
How many more losses will be realized in mortgage-backed and other loan-based collateralized securities held in bank and investment firm asset portfolios remains to be seen.

The Telegraph noted Qatar's 30 billion pound sovereign wealth fund just bought under 2 percent of Credit Swiss.

While the Qatar Investment Authority plans to spend between 5 billion and 7.5 billion pounds on bank investments over the next two years, the fund plans to avoid U.S. banking stocks for now, due to uncertainty over their exposure to sub-prime loans.
The publication /Business Intelligence in the Middle East reports the Dubai Financial Market's Sharia Board issued yesterday the first Islamic standards for trading shares of DFM companies, another indication Dubai is positioning for a global investment environment dominated by Western standards.
The DFM, first opened March 26, 2000, is a public institution with a corporate body operating independently of the ruling family, organized to operate as a secondary market for the trading of listed securities issued by public shareholding companies.

It's not easy to find on his campaign website, but Sen. Barack Obama has issued an open letter to the "LGBT community" assuring them he believes in "full equality" for homosexuals and stating that, unlike Sen. Hillary Clinton, he advocates the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act.

In the letter, published on a campaign blog, Obama says he's "running for president to build an America that lives up to our founding promise of equality for all – a promise that extends to our gay brothers and sisters."

Pointing out that throughout his career he's "fought to eliminate discrimination against LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Americans," Obama lists some of his specific accomplishments.

* In the Illinois legislature, he "co-sponsored a fully inclusive bill that prohibited discrimination on the basis of both sexual orientation and gender identity, extending protection to the workplace, housing and places of public accommodation."

* In the U.S. Senate, he has co-sponsored bills "that would equalize tax treatment for same-sex couples and provide benefits to domestic partners of federal employees."

As president, he says, "I will place the weight of my administration behind the enactment of the Matthew Shepard Act to outlaw hate crimes and a fully inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act to outlaw workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity."

Obama's newspaper ad appealing to homosexual community

In the run-up to the recent Texas and Ohio primaries, Obama bought full-page ads in homosexual-oriented newspapers in Columbus, Cleveland, Dallas and Houston.

The ads were the brainchild of Stampp Corbin, co-chairman of Obama's National LGBT Leadership Council, the Advocate newspaper reported. Stern told the 'gay' publication the coordinated buy was "the icing on the cake" in terms of the campaign's outreach to the homosexual community in the two states.

"It's a direct appeal to LGBT voters, asking for their support," Corbin said.

The Advocate said the Obama campaign "has actively been trying to cut into the long-standing ties between gays and lesbians and Sen. Hillary Clinton."

In his letter, Obama says he will also use the presidency's bully pulpit to "urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws."

The candidate for the White House says he would not prevent legalization of same-sex marriage.

"I personally believe that civil unions represent the best way to secure that equal treatment," he says. "But I also believe that the federal government should not stand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay and lesbian couples whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union or a civil marriage."

Obama says he has opposed the Defense of Marriage Act :

The federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) defines marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman for purposes of all federal laws, and provides that states need not recognize a marriage from another state if it is between persons of the same sex. Forty states have their own Defense of Marriage Acts (DOMAs).(not part of original article--emphasis added)

since arriving in the Senate three years ago, and, unlike Sen. Clinton and those who say it should be partially repealed, "I believe we should get rid of that statute altogether."

"Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples, which is precisely what DOMA does," he says.

The Defense of Marriage Act is a law signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996 that says the federal government and individual states are not required to recognize a same-sex marriage, even if it is recognized by another state.

Obama points out he also has called for repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy of barring personnel from disclosing homosexual behavior or "orientation" while preventing authorities from investigating it.

The Illinois senator says he also has worked "to improve the Uniting American Families Act :

About the Uniting American Families Act: The Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) is a U.S. bill introduced to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act which currently houses the countries immigration policies. If passed, UAFA would allow permanent partners of United States citizens and permanent residents, including same-sex partners, to obtain residency. so we can accord same-sex couples the same rights and obligations as married couples in our immigration system."

The bill would allow unmarried "permanent partners" of U.S. citizens to obtain permanent resident status in the same manner as spouses.

Obama also addresses the HIV/AIDS epidemic, saying that while abstinence education should be part of any strategy, "We should have age-appropriate sex education that includes information about contraception."

Specifically, he advocates passing the JUSTICE Act to combat HIV infection within the prison population and says "we should lift the federal ban on needle exchange, which could dramatically reduce rates of infection among drug users."

The Justice Act, or Justice for the Unprotected Against Sexually Transmitted Infections

Congresswoman Barbara Lee has authored a bill, HR 178, the "Justice for the Unprotected Against Sexually Transmitted Infections among Confined and Exposed (JUSTICE) Act" that attempts to eliminate obstacles to enabling a comprehensive program that could remedy the disproportionate impact of HIV on those members of the prisoner population at high risk and the communities they return to once paroled. Similar to the California legislation AB 1334 (Swanson) that addresses HIV prevalence in state facilities, HR 178 would allow community organizations to distribute condoms, offer counseling and provide information on HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases in federal correctional facilities. Additionally it would require an annual survey of all federal, state and territorial penal systems to determine what policies were in place regarding testing for STIs, education, counseling, health referrals and treatment prior to re-entry. The information gleaned from the survey would be used to develop a five year strategic plan to reduce HIV and STIs tranmission in all correctional facilities by requiring an expansion of prevention, education, counseling, testing and treatment. Referrals to health services in the community at large would be in place with monitoring and evaluation mechanisms geared toward reducing HIV infections over a five year period. 'Prayer and hard work'

"We also need a president who's willing to confront the stigma too often tied to homophobia that continues to surround HIV/AIDS," he emphasizes.

Obama refers to a speech he made at his controversial appearance in late 2006 at Rick Warren's evangelical Saddleback Church in which he "confronted this stigma directly."

As WND reported, Obama told the most recent Saddleback AIDS conference, in November, he would double foreign assistance for AIDS from $25 billion to $50 billion by 2012.

He told the conferees in Southern California he also called for adopting "humanitarian" policies to make it easier to license generic drugs.

"With prayer and hard work, I believe we'll make real strides addressing this scourge and doing God's work on earth," he told the Orange County crowd.

In his letter, Obama says "having the right positions on the issues is only half the battle. The other half is to win broad support for those positions. And winning broad support will require stepping outside our comfort zone."

Along with repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and implementing "fully inclusive laws outlawing hate crimes, he says, it's important to bring "the message of LGBT equality to skeptical audiences as well as friendly ones, and that's what I’ve done throughout my career."

"I will never compromise on my commitment to equal rights for all LGBT Americans," Obama says. "But neither will I close my ears to the voices of those who still need to be convinced. That is the work we must do to move forward together. It is difficult. It is challenging. And it is necessary."

Javier Solana, the EU's foreign policy chief, will stress during his three-day Mideast tour the importance of keeping the Annapolis peace process on track and underline the EU's commitment to this process and its support for the parties.

BRUSSELS (EJP)---The European Union has condemned on Sunday what it called the “disproportionate use of force" by Israel in the Gaza Strip as the EU’s foreign policy chief, Javier Solana is arriving in the region.

In a statement, the EU’s Slovenian presidency said: "The presidency condemns the recent disproportionate use of force by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) against Palestinian population in Gaza and urges Israel to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from all activities that endanger civilians."

It added: "Such activities are contrary to international law. The Presidency at the same time reiterates condemnation of continued firing of rockets into Israeli territory and calls for its immediate end."
The statement was issued after intense fighting in the Gaza Strip over the weekend in which fifty-four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers were killed.

Senior Israeli political and military leaders have been mulling a major ground operation in the Gaza Strip for months, as Hamas militants launched daily rocket and mortar attacks on southern Israel.

The EU presidency said "it rejects collective punishment of the people of Gaza."

"We are deeply worried about the suffering of the civilian population on Israeli and Palestinian side. We have stated too many times that both Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live in peace and security,” the statement said.

The Eu stressed that the peace process should not be interrupted.

"Actions that undermine this process should be stopped immediately. Cessation of violence is one of the key elements in achieving the commitments made in Annapolis. The Presidency urges all sides to advance on the path to a negotiated settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict as set out in Annapolis."

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni spoke Saturday with Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, and said Israel was acting to protect its citizens.

Solana's Mideast trip

Javier Solana, the European Union foreign policy chief, has started on Sunday a 3-day visit to Israel, the Palestinian territories and Lebanon.

In Israel, Solana will meet on Monday with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defence Minister Ehud Barak.

On Tuesday, the EU official will travel to the Palestinian territories for meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, Ahmed Ali Mohammed Qurei, chairman of the Palestinian negotiating team, and Saeb Erekat, head of the negotiations affairs department.

According to his cabinet, Solana will stress the importance of keeping the Annapolis peace process on track and underline the EU's commitment to this process and its support for the parties.

He will also stress the EU's readiness to help bring about and implement a solution to the situation in Gaza.

IDF Troops Withdraw, Hamas Claims Victory

(IsraelNN.com) Hamas claimed victory on Monday morning after IDF troops withdrew from northern Gaza. “The enemy was defeated,” the group claimed in a public announcement.

IDF soldiers fought with terrorists from Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other groups in Gaza over the past two days. Two soldiers were killed in the fighting, as were roughly 90 terrorists. Another two terrorists were killed in IAF strikes early on Monday morning. IDF officials have not yet said what the army’s next move will be, and if the “Warm Winter” operation aimed at destroying Hamas’s weapons stores will continue.

NEW YORK - Stocks fell sharply Friday after a series of depressing economic and corporate reports as well as high oil prices stoked concerns about the health of the economy. The major stock indexes fell more than 2.5 percent and the Dow Jones industrials lost 315 points.

Investors were unnerved by disappointing quarterly results from American International Group Inc. and Dell Inc. And an index of regional business activity that Wall Street regards as a good indicator of a broader report due next week had its weakest showing in more than six years.

Oil prices continued to stir concern about inflation after pushing past $103 per barrel for the first time.

How Obama won over a tiny Arab village

If it were up to Dr. George Ayoub, the mayor of the northern Israeli Arab village of Fassouta, Barack Obama would be the next president of the United States.

While the American Jewish community is split over Obama's views on Israel, it is a little-known fact that he came here on a study tour two years ago to see the realities of the region for himself.

During a five-day visit as a member of the US Senate in January 2006, details of which were only disclosed by the mayor on Thursday, the Illinois senator who has now emerged as the Democratic front-runner in the presidential race was hosted in Fassouta by the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.

The senator flew by helicopter to a soccer field in the Catholic village on the Lebanese border, where the federation operates a joint project with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago to provide computers to school children.

"We were very glad to see him here for about five hours," Ayoub told The Jerusalem Post by telephone on Thursday. "We didn't know that he was going to be the Democratic presidential candidate at the time, and now all of Fassouta are with him, with Barack Obama, and we hope he is going to be the next president of the [United] States."

Asked why he thought Obama, who is Christian and briefly attended Catholic school, had what it took to be president, Ayoub, a medical doctor by profession, said: "He was a very impressive man. He has charisma, and he was full of humility and respect. He spoke about peace and security for the Middle East, and he talked about peace between all religions."

The mayor took Obama on a tour of the picturesque village that featured its historic Catholic Church, which not long ago celebrated its 100th anniversary, and was visited recently by Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago.

"Obama asked how it was being on the border with Lebanon, and he asked about the Christian minority in Israel, and we explained our situation to him," Ayoub said. "He believes in dialogue with Syria, Iran and Lebanon, and in my opinion he's right, because in order to remove all our problems, we have to sit at the table and talk about peace."

"He had come to Israel from Iraq," Ayoub added. "He said he wanted to take the American soldiers out of Iraq."

Michael C. Kotzin, the executive vice president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago who accompanied Obama, noted that the trip came shortly after the senator had taken office.

"He was so impressed by the visit," Kotzin said. "In fact, in the first speech he gave on his Middle East policy to AIPAC last March, he referred to it."

Actually, Obama made somewhat of a gaffe in that speech, referring to the all-Catholic Fassouta as a town of 3,000 residents in which "all faiths and nationalities live together with mutual respect."

But it was also in that address, in which he first spoke publicly about his visit to Israel, that Obama stated his policy on the country most succinctly: "Peace with security," he said. "That is the Israeli people's overriding wish. It is what I saw in the town of Fassouta on the border with Lebanon."

During his time in Fassouta, Obama heard from Ayoub and Avi Krampa, the mayor of nearby Ma'aleh Yosef, about the close relationship between Arabs and Jews in the area.

"I remember also that the girls did some dancing, and he said they could have been his daughters," Kotzin said. "There was a sense of human connection."

Asked why the visit was kept under wraps, Kotzin said: "It wasn't really. He was accompanied by the Chicago press, but he just didn't have time for the Israeli media."

The Chicago Federation also arranged a lunch meeting focused on the immigration efforts it supports through the Jewish Agency, to which it invited young Ethiopian immigrants and Jewish Agency Chairman Ze'ev Bielski.

"We had a beautiful lunch in Jerusalem, to which we invited young people from the Ethiopian community in Kiryat Gat, and he showed great interest in them," Bielski said. "He told the youngsters that he had played basketball, and all the kids understood that if you play basketball, you may become a senator."

"He was very kind, and listened with a lot of patience and interest," Bielski said. "You can see that this is a self-made person who had to pave his own way and overcome difficulties."

Bielski said that Obama told them that "he is a strong supporter of the State of Israel, and there's no doubt in his mind that we should have a strong Israel.

"He stressed that the relationship between the US and Israel should be strengthened - and those were his words when he was a senator and we didn't know he could become the president of the United States."

Linda Epstein, the director of the Chicago Federation's Israel office, called it a "successful" visit.

"I think it was successful for everyone concerned because the goal was to learn about the country, its complexity and its needs," Epstein said. "He listened very carefully and asked excellent questions... about social issues, education, integration, immigration and absorption. I think he left with tools that enabled him to understand how to improve his knowledge."

Asked how Obama struck her as a person, Epstein said: "He's very personable. There's no ego in evidence, and he talks to you in a manner which makes it clear that he's listening very carefully to what you have to say."

Alan Solow, a Jewish supporter of Obama from Chicago who also accompanied him on the trip, said it undoubtedly had "a positive impact on the senator, who is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate, and who came here to discharge his duties on that committee."

"I think that he has expressed publicly on a number of occasions that the trip had an impact on him in the sense that while he had studied the situation from an intellectual viewpoint, he was able to see for himself the situation on the ground," Solow said. "He was impacted by his tour of the North, the Lebanese border, and the areas suffering hits from rocket attacks, and he had the opportunity to spend a day in the Palestinian territories as well, and all those experiences added to his knowledge of the situation here."

Solow said he was convinced that Obama was a firm supporter of Israel.

"I think he has many, many Jewish supporters who are strong proponents of the security of the State of Israel," Solow said. "His public statements reflect a strong support for Israel, and as someone who has a longtime commitment to the State of Israel, I can say that if our country is smart enough to elect him president, the relationship between Israel and the US will be a very warm one."

Explosion kills 1, destroys car in Syrian capital of Damascus

An explosion destroyed a parked car in a residential neighborhood of Damascus late Tuesday, killing a passer-by and shattering windows on nearby buildings, witnesses said.

The cause of the explosion in the upscale Kafar Soussa neighborhood was not immediately known. Security forces quickly sealed off the area and removed the destroyed car, which had its driver's seat and the rear seat blown away by the force of the blast.

The identity of the passer-by also was not immediately known, witnesses said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

There are no government buildings located in the mostly residential Kafar Soussa district. Only an Iranian school is located about few hundred meters (yards) from the blast, but the school was unscathed.

JERUSALEM – Syria, aided by Russia and Iran, in recent months has been furiously acquiring rockets and missiles, including projectiles capable of hitting the entire state of Israel, according to Jordanian and Israeli security officials speaking to WND.

A Jordanian security official said one of the main reasons Damascus did not retaliate after Israel carried out its Sept. 6 airstrike inside Syria allegedly targeting a nascent nuclear facility was because Syria's rocket infrastructure was not yet complete.

The official said after the Israeli airstrike, Syria picked up the pace of acquiring rockets and missiles, largely from Russia with Iranian backing, with the goal of completing its missile and rocket arsenal by the end of the year. The Jordanian official said Syria is aiming to possess enough projectiles to fire over 100 rockets into Israel per hour for a sustained period of time.

For years now since the advent of the Left Behind Series then the Rosenberg books: Last Jihad, Last Days, Ezekiel Option, Copper Scroll and Epicenter, we have been subjected to the idea that the 'next big sign' would be the war of Gog and Magog. I was excited to read about the Ezekiel prophesies in chapter 37-39. I agree that this war is coming, however I have read Isaiah 17 as well. It has been my understanding that this Prophesy (Isaiah 17) has yet to have happened. It is a matter that concerns me as we saw last year when Israel 'discovered' that Syria has a 'plant' in the dessert that was guarded to the 'T, it later became evident that Syria was importing certain goods from North Korea to this site. Soon after this intel it was 'laid waste' by Israel. Now this was not in Damascus...but wouldn't it behoove Syria to dare to put a similar project in the middle of their most populated cities in hopes that Israel wouldn't dare touch such a place? Just a thought or a wonder... I'm not prevy to classified information...I do my digging and have learned to read between the lines. It is important not to presuppose especially when it comes to G-d's divine word. It is better always to be diligent in reading and investigating His word, as well as staying in prayer over all things. So with that I will leave you to your Bible! God Bless and stay alert!

'Give Us a Shot': N.C. Church Hands Out Shot Glasses at Bars

To get people to attend his new church campus, Robbie McLaughlin is sending his message out to where the people are.

Next Friday, staffers from Next Level Church of Matthews will go to bars in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte to hand out shot glasses which ask patrons to "give us a shot" and bear the slogan, "Real church for real people."

The idea is to draw people to the Ballantyne campus, which opens next month.

McLaughlin is the pastor, and said he is confident that it will be controversial, but he said the goal is not necessarily to impress people who already go to church. He said it's to impress people who don't.

Next Level is a nontraditional church that encourages members to dress casually and snack on coffee and doughnuts during services.

McLaughlin said the idea has caught on, and in two years, the church has grown from a handful of members to more than 700. [taken from Foxnews.com]

Russia's military chief of staff said Saturday that Moscow could use nuclear weapons in preventive strikes in case of a major threat, the latest aggressive remarks from increasingly assertive Russian authorities. Russian Chief of Staff Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky.

"We have no plans to attack anyone, but we consider it necessary for all our partners in the world community to clearly understand ... that to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia and its allies, military forces will be used, including preventively, including with the use of nuclear weapons," Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky said.

The comments from the hawkish Baluyevsky did not appear to mark a policy shift for Russia, whose leaders have stressed the need to maintain a powerful nuclear deterrent and reserved the right to carry out preventive strikes.

Moscow-based military analyst Alexander Golts said that when Russia broke with Soviet-era policy in 2000 and declared it could use nuclear weapons first against an aggressor, it reflected the decline of Russia's conventional forces in the decade following the 1991 Soviet collapse breakup.

"Baluyevsky's statement means that, as before, we cannot count on our conventional forces to counter aggression," Golts told Ekho Moskvy radio. "It means that as before, the main factor in containing aggression against Russia is nuclear weapons."

But in most of their public remarks about preventive strikes, President Vladimir Putin and other officials have not specifically mentioned the use of nuclear weapons, and top officials have said preventive strikes against terrorists would not involve nuclear weapons.

Baluyevsky made his remarks at a time of increasingly strained relations between Moscow and the West, which are at odds over a range of issues. They are embroiled in persistent disputes over US plans for missile defense facilities in former Soviet satellite states that have joined NATO, alliance members' refusal to ratify an updated European conventional arms treaty, and Kosovo's independence bid.

Like most saber-rattling by Putin and other Russian officials, the chief of staff's remarks appeared aimed at least in part at the United States, which Moscow accuses of endangering global security through aggressive actions such as the invasion of Iraq.

Putin, who has sought to boost his popularity at home and win support abroad with his vocal criticism of US foreign policy, has said that Russia opposes the use of preventive military attacks but reserves the right to carry them out because other countries do so.

Baluyevsky identified no specific nations or forces that threaten Russia. According to the ITAR-Tass news agency, however, he said threats to global security include "the striving by a number of countries for hegemony on a regional and global level" - a clear reference to the United States - and terrorism.

With Russian officials jockeying for position ahead of the March 2 presidential election, Baluyevsky's remarks at a military conference in Moscow may also have been aimed in part at a domestic audience.

Putin is barred from seeking a third term but has endorsed protege Dmitry Medvedev as his favored successor and has said he will become prime minister in the event of Medvedev's election, which is virtually assured given Putin's support and the Kremlin's control over electoral politics.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — A Libyan took over as president of the U.N. Security Council Thursday, capping the nation's climb back to respectability. But its ambassador said Libya's past ordeal under U.N. sanctions puts it "in a very difficult position when we speak about imposing sanctions against another country."

The rapid ascent of Libyan Ambassador Giadalla Ettalhi to this month's revolving council presidency, occurring during the first month that Libya has ever been allowed onto the council, is a remarkable turnabout for the north African nation long seen as a sponsor of terrorism.

Ettalhi said that Libya's past as an international outcast would make it reluctant to impose U.N. sanctions on another country.

"I might say that as a country that had suffered from sanctions, we will be in a very difficult position when we speak about imposing sanctions against another country," Ettalhi said.

The council, which oversees global peace and security, is the only U.N. body whose decisions are all binding. Only the United States, China, France, Russia and Britain have veto power; the 10 other member countries, including Libya this year, are elected to two-year terms.

Among its tools are economic sanctions, arms embargoes, financial sanctions, travel bans and military actions.

The council presidency rotates monthly among members, based on alphabetical order in English. The job requires setting the monthly agenda and running council meetings, but it does not give an ambassador automatic entry into talks exclusive to the most powerful members.

Also Thursday, Libyan Foreign Minister Abdel-Rahman Shalqam met with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in the highest-level contact between the two countries in Washington in 35 years.

President Reagan, who sent U.S. bombers to Libya in 1986 after its attack on a German disco, once described Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi as an "enemy" and sponsor of terrorism from Europe to Africa to the Middle East. Gadhafi came to power in a military coup in 1969.

The United States put Libya on a list of state sponsors of terrorism and imposed sanctions that barred American companies from doing business there.

Oil-rich Libya also was ostracized by years of U.N. sanctions for sponsoring terrorism, but started moving back into the international fold with its 2003 decision to dismantle its nuclear arms program.

Gadhafi's attempts to normalize U.S.-Libya relations included pledges to renounce terrorism, abandon weapons of mass destruction and compensate victims' families for attacks such as the 1988 bombing of Pam Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.

The Security Council voted in 2003 to lift decades-old sanctions against Libya that had included a ban on military sales and some oil equipment after the 1988 bombing. The sanctions already were suspended in 1999, after Libya agreed to hand over two suspects for trial.

The United States resumed full diplomatic relations with Libya last year for the first time in more than a quarter-century, and later removed Libya from the State Department's list of terrorism sponsors.

U.S. diplomatic officials say they still have human rights concerns and terrorism worries there. Human Rights Watch, an advocacy group, reported that three political prisoners in Libya had disappeared in the past year and a half.

But the officials see progress.

"Libya has come a long way, in renouncing WMD and in a number of ways, helping with the peace process in both Chad and Sudan," said Jackie Wolcott, who represents U.S. interests before the Security Council. "I think in the council we will work very well with them."

Libya still has not paid the $2 million per victim it agreed upon as compensation for the Pan Am bombing. Families say they have received about 80 percent of what they were owed, and two Libyan intelligence agents were convicted.

Glenn Johnson, chairman of a group called Victims of Pan Am Flight 103, said Libya "should not be fully recognized as coming into civilized nations" until it pays up.

"It sends a poor message that the United States is willing to let countries not live up to their agreements, without any consequences," said Johnson, whose 21-year-old daughter died aboard the flight. "I would have preferred that Libya not be allowed on the Security Council."

A lesson a day throughout the year will completely cover the 365 lessons from the Course in Miracles “Workbook.” For example, Lesson #29 asks you to go through your day affirming that “God is in everything I see.” Lesson #61 tells each person to repeat the affirmation “I am the light of the world.” Lesson #70 teaches the student to say and believe “My salvation comes from me.” By the end of the year, “Oprah & Friends” listeners will have completed all of the lessons laid out in the Course in Miracles Workbook. Most Christians recognize that these teachings are the opposite of what the Bible teaches. At this critical time in the history of the world, the New Gospel/New Spirituality is coming right at the world and the church with its New Age teachings and its New Age Peace Plan. But this New Age Peace Plan has at its deceptive core the bottom-line teaching from A Course in Miracles that “we are all one” because God is “in” everyone and everything. But the Bible is clear that we are not God (Ezekiel 28:2; Hosea 11:9). And per Galatians 3:26-28, our only oneness is in Jesus Christ—not in ourselves as “God” and “Christ.” What Oprah and Marianne Williamson and the world will learn one day is that humanity’s only real and lasting peace is with the true Jesus Christ who is described and quoted in the Holy Bible (Romans 5:1). Oprah Winfrey’s misplaced faith in Marianne Williamson and the New Age teachings of A Course in Miracles is a sure sign of the times. But an even surer sign of the times is that most Christians are not taking heed to what is happening in the world and in the church. We are not contending for the faith as the Bible admonishes us to do (Jude 3). It is time for all of our Purpose-Driven and Emerging church pastors to address the real issue of the day. Our true Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is being reinvented, redefined, and blasphemed right in front of our eyes and hardly anyone seems to notice or care. If we want the world to know who Jesus Christ is, we need to also warn them about who He is not. There is a false New Age “Christ” making huge inroads into the world and into the church. The Apostle Paul said that “it is a shame” we have to even talk about these things, but talk about them we must (Ephesians 5:12-16). If people want to follow Oprah Winfrey and the New Age “Christ” of A Course in Miracles they certainly have that right. I know a lot of people and Christians who watch Oprah and take her 'kindness' and 'love' as genuine. She may give all her millions to poor all over the world but if she is preaching a false gospel she will not get into heaven based on her works. She is actually stumbling many since many young people watch her when they get home from school. I know-- I used to watch her as a teen. Right about the time she started her 'angel network' is when I lost interest in her show. So I don't know what she preaches from first hand knowledge. Frankly I thought back then that she was kinda weird. Even as a heathen I understood that she never claimed to be a 'Christian' or to know or love Jesus Christ. Thank God that He shielded me from her input when he did. So now I heard she's putting her New Age beliefs on XM. I read it from Prophesy News Watch. So I looked further into this. I didn't know she was "New Age" until that article. I thought, and now she's backing a presidential candidate! then now it's time to speak out on this one! Folks do not be deceived! Many will come in His name....there is only One Way and that is Through Repentance and Acceptance of Jesus Christ as your savior. Choosing to be 'good' or to live in 'love' is not the same as admitting your a sinner who needs a savior. I pray you will receive this admonition in love and look into Oprah and her beliefs further before concluding that 'she's ok.'

The sports we were known for were Baseball, Football, maybe even a game of Basketball every now and then. Now our society is one built on less intelligence and the games we play have changed, for example: Lotto, Lottery, Power ball,and video games... Do you think the originators of Chess would have a problem hiding or altering information?

Monday the Ap reported that Iran has halted its nuclear ambitions since 2003. But could still enrich uranium and be nuclear in say 2015. Why would the story break now? I don't believe it firstly, secondly I think I have a pretty good guess as to why now.

Right before the Annapolis meeting that took place on November 27th, Ahmadinejad and Chavez were carousing the Middle Eastern countries asking for them to dump the US. Dump our currency and exchange oil revenue in another currency. They both know that if such a move was made our economy would crumble and we would have no economic power to wage any sort of war against Iran. Chavez was trying to become the Latino Hitler, Putin is already there, the military alliance between Russia and Iran is setting, along with China present to contribute economically by buying up crude oil. All the little scumbags have to do now is convince the Arab Nations that it is in their best interest to leave their infidel adulterer (that's US) and join the forces of darkness.

So Annapolis came. The US probably asserted themselves to see what kind of response they could muster out of the Arab states 'if' we (the US) were to strike militarily against Iran...what would the Arab states do? I'm sure Bush and Condi were awe struck when they heard the real story from them. "Strike the country of Iran and we cannot nor will we promise you anything." No promise of oil, no promise sleeper cells won't blow up every metropolitan city from NY to CA. Not to mention that brilliant idea of trading in Euros since the Dollar is becoming obsolite. And what conclusion did Condi and Bush come up with after hearing a response such as that? "Iran...not a threat, diplomacy is working, Bomb? What Bomb?"

Fast Forward to today...Israel has been left out to dry.
Result= Iran may not have a bomb yet, but I'm sure they are close and Israel will have to determine if they should go after Iran alone. They have to go after Iran alone if they do anything regarding Iran at all. Enter stage left, Syria. Syria is closer to Israel geographically and was also part of the Palastenian two state solution package. Yes, Syria wants in, they want the Golan Heights and from there it's like throwing a rock in a pond. Why would Israel turn its eyes toward Syria when Iran wants to get a bomb and use it on Israel? Maybe because of Isaiah 17, maybe because Syria does have a nuclear type bomb and will use it on Israel if they don't get or when they do get the Golan? Maybe because hitting Syria would send a clear message to Iran? Maybe because I read too much prophesy stuff and read too much of my Bible and really don't like crafts so I come up with this stuff!?

Maybe just maybe God is going to fulfill His word and bring into fulfillment every word He has ever written and it's highly important that your heart is right before Him before this or anything else of this magnitude happens. Some think Doom and Gloom, Fire and Brimstone isn't the way to get people to believe in God...I say if you don't believe in Him already this won't scare you anyway! The message of His second coming isn't for the unbeliever it's for the believer! Do you Believe? Do you believe God at His word? Do you know Him already? Are you neglecting His word because you don't want to change the way you live? Do you not understand His word because you have not yet asked the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you? Do you think ignoring it will cause it to be less real? He loves you, that's why He gave you His word! Read it. Don't waste time reading my rantings.

Today, the Arab leaders realize that perpetuating the conflict will only play into the hands of the extremists, and thereby undermine their own legitimacy.
Thus, the moon and the sun are aligned. The interests of Israel, the moderate Palestinian leaders, nearly the entire Arab world and, indeed, the international community as a whole are one and the same - to end the festering sore of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as soon as possible.
No one believes the path ahead will be easy. But without progress toward an independent Palestinian state, it looks to be a matter of time before what happened in Gaza in June - a Hamas takeover - is repeated in the West Bank. JPOST: Turner of CNN and the UN looking to make 'Peace in the Middle East', Again

Less than a week after announcing that Kofi Annan, the former secretary-general of the United Nations, joined its board of directors, the United Nations Foundation has sent a high-level delegation to Israel and Jordan.

The delegation arrived in Israel at 6 a.m. on Sunday and held meetings with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and other prominent figures.

Heading the delegation were its chairman, Ted Turner, the founder of the CNN Cable News Network, and Annan.

The UN Foundation tries to build public-private partnerships that address the world's most pressing problems.

"We've come here to see if we can help," said Turner.

"We are here to listen and to see what is going on in the region," Annan told Peres. "Peace is of great concern to all of us."

Annan reminded Peres of something the president often says, half in jest: "We live in a world where people want to see the light at the end of the tunnel. What we need is a tunnel."

Declaring his pleasure at seeing Peres in the role of president, Turner said: "You have been a beacon of light and a ray of hope in your whole career."

Asked by members of the delegation what the UN could do to advance peace and stability in the region, Peres said oil was a central factor in the quest for world peace. The UN could take long-range economic measures to reduce dependence on oil since it was a major contributor to global warming and to the financing of terrorism, he said.

There was no doubt, Peres said, that oil-rich regimes became corrupt and dictatorial, thus endangering world peace.

Iran's strength, he said, derived from the weakness and division of the West as reflected in its inability to imposition severe economic sanctions to pressure the Islamic Republic to end its nuclear program.

Peres said Europe was gradually realizing the perils posed by Iran. Europe was always right, but that Europe was always late, he said, citing European attitudes toward Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler as examples of Europe's tardiness. He expressed the hope that Europe would break this pattern with regard to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

As soon as he arrived at Beit Hanassi in Jerusalem, Turner was asked his opinion about CNN being dropped by HOT cable television.

Turner said he hadn't been with CNN in a long time, although he was still emotionally attached and watched it frequently, and had no say in what goes on. It would be "a sad thing" if CNN was taken off the air in Israel, he said.

Asked by The Jerusalem Post whether he had come to invite Peres to join the board of the UN Foundation, which was established in 1998 with his billion-dollar gift, Turner said the foundation was not a membership organization, "but we'd love to have him if he'd like to join us."

The board's members include Queen Rania of Jordan.

Among the Israelis at the luncheon were former chief of General Staff and ex-government minister Amnon Lipkin-Shahak and Ron Pundak, director-general of the Peres Center for Peace and one of the architects of the Oslo Accords.

The importance of this article is to bring light to what is taking place in our Media in regards to (a)Ted Turner, and also to the continual vain (b)attempts to divide the land of Israel, in regards to the Oslo Accords.

A) Ted Turner: He started CNN and I'm sure his initial goal was to merely broadcast the news on a 24 hour basis. However, as most people who gain acclaim, success, popularity, and power, Mr. Turner has turned his good idea into a political platform. The politics of CNN is not merely based on it's journalists but one only has to look to its founder, "daddy" to find out where the source of it's subject matter is coming from. Truly no mainstream media does an absolute politically free, unbiased, job. No not even Fox News. The problem is known, then what of the Answer? The answer obviously is quite clear to me but maybe not to the occasional visitor here, Read your Bible. Yes, that is the answer to most of life's problems but it is especially clear in explaining the current headlines and happenings of today's news. You see, in the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Because of this truth we can take the Word of God and use it as a filter to shift through all the propaganda and political hype. Ask yourself what is true, what did God say about...'global warming' is it in the bible sure it is, the Word of God goes into length about the true 'end of days' and explains exactly how it will unfold and what cataclysmic disasters will take place or not! I encourage you to read your bible and you will find many 'future headlines' that you can then be ready for as you hear them come across the airwaves.
B)Dividing the Land/Oslo Accords:Division of the Land of Israel can only result in the ensuing wrath of God. (Joel 3) This topic really truly grieves my spirit. While our Republican government is seeking to deliver $400 million in aid to the Palestinians, the US is also at the same time trying to broker a peace deal that is today called, "The Road map to Peace" make no mistake it is the Oslo Accords revisited. What is terribly grievous about this is that once again 'we' are attempting to divide land that belongs to Israel and give it away to a people who seek the annihilation of Israel and the United States as well, (maybe we think if we give them a chunk of land that is not ours to give they will look on us with sweet fondness and forget that they want to destroy us?). The logic is ill conceived and at worst Satanically driven. But how so you might ask, how is seeking 'Peace in the middle east' an outpouring of Satan, wouldn't that be the G-dly thing to do?
No, see you must use the Bible as a filter! We are now living in a time that will be Peace Driven, everyone will want peace and believe me they'll want it even more after a couple more devastating wars that are still to come (Isaiah 17, and Ezekiel 38 & 39,to name a few). There will only be one true peace and that will be when Jesus comes again and sets up His millennial rein . Before Jesus comes back a False Prophet will arise and lead people to believe in the Anti-Christ. Anti-Christ will set up a false Peace by signing a covenant with Israel to allow them to rebuild their temple and resume sacrifices. However at the mid point of this 7 year treaty Anti-Christ will break this treaty and declare that 'he' is the one true G-d and that everyone should worship him.
Now that is a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and in order for you to understand that you have to read your B-I-B-L-E. Sorry, no easy ones today!

Palestine Waiting for New Intifada

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement to Tehran dismissed the Mideast peace conference in the US as a failed effort, and said he expected that a new wave of Intifada would arise in the occupied territories following the US summit.

Speaking in a press conference here in Tehran on Tuesday, Naser Abu Sharif said the so-called Mideast peace conference, similar to previous meetings hosted by the US, is merely aimed at rendering support and buying credit for the Zionist regime of Israel which sustained a great loss and defeat in its invasion of Lebanon last summer.

Meantime, he said that the US and Israel are seeking to use the conference to attract the companionship of the moderate governments of the region to form a front against Iran, Syria and Lebanon.

"Palestine is the main issue of the world of Islam and Arab countries cannot have the required legitimacy for accompanying the US plots against Iran, Lebanon and Syria without having the support of their nations," Abu Sharif said.

He also perceived an obvious failure for the conference, saying, "All political analysts have envisaged failure for the peace conference because this conference has not been built up on proper fundaments."

"Given the United States' unilateral support for the Zionist regime, Israel will make no concessions to the Palestinian nation in the conference," the Islamic Jihad official added.

He also said that Palestinian negotiators are not powerful enough to receive concessions, "Palestinian leaders will step into this conference without the support of the Palestinian nation while Islamic Jihad, Hamas and other groups will not participate in the meeting. Considering all the above, the Palestinian delegation will not have a winning ace in the conference."

Abu Sharif warned Palestinian negotiators against participation in the conference, saying that if they attend the meeting, they will be forced to sustain a failure.

"The Palestinian and Israeli sides will not achieve anything in the conference," he said, adding, "and since the Israelis are aware of this point, they will merely strive to normalize their relations with the regional countries during the meeting."

Abu Sharif said the failure of the conference is a taken-for-granted fact for all the participants, adding that not only the Palestinian side, but also the Israeli regime has accepted to partake in the conference due to the United States' pressures.

He also anticipated that following the conference in the US, Palestinians would start a new round of Intifada in the occupied territories.

The terms Shiite and Sunni are heard often in stories about the Muslim world, but few people really know what they mean. Religion permeates every aspect of life in the Muslim world and understanding the differences between Shiites and Sunnis is important in understanding the complex geopolitics of the Middle East.

The division between Shiites (or Shia, there are a number of variations on the spelling) and Sunnis began in the years immediately following the death of the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of the Islamic faith. When Muhammad died in 632 AD there was a disagreement over who should succeed him as the political and religious leader of the Muslim world. One group of Muslims elected Abu Bakr, a close companion of Muhammad to be the caliph, or leader. However a smaller group believed that Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law, Ali ibn Abu Talib, was the rightful leader. The Muslims who believed that Abu Bakr should be Muhammad's successor have come to be known as Sunni. Whereas the Muslims who felt Ali should have been the successor are now known as Shiite.

Abu Bakr was the first caliph, although Shiites considered him to be a usurper. He was succeeded by Umar ibn al-Khattab and Uthman ibn Affan, the second and third caliphs. In the year 656 AD, 24 years after the death of Muhammad, Uthman was murdered. After Uthman's death Ali, whom Shiites had always considered the rightful leader, was finally elected to rule. Ali was opposed by Muhammad's wife Aisha, the daughter of Abu Bakr. Aisha challenged his authority and criticized Ali for his lack of interest in bringing Uthman's killers to justice. Aisha raised an army against Ali, which lead to the first Fitna, or Islamic civil war. Ali defeated Aisha at the Battle of Bassorah, also known as the Battle of the Camel. Ali's reign was turbulent and he was assassinated in 661 AD.

Under the leadership of the first four caliphs (Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali), the political, social, and religious institutions of Islam were solidified. Islam spread far beyond the borders of the Arabian peninsula, east into the Persian empire, north into Byzantine territory, and west across northern Africa. After Ali's death, however, Islamic unity splintered. Sunni Islam continued through the Umayyads and other dynasties that led to the powerful Ottoman and Mughal empires of the 15th to 20th Centuries. For Shiites, leadership was passed down through the Imams, who were believed to be divinely appointed from Muhammad's family. The 12th and final Shiite Imam died in the late 9th Century. After several centuries a council was appointed to elect an Ayatollah, the supreme Shiite spiritual leader.

The divide between Shiite and Sunni Muslims began as a political one, but this ultimately led to some religious and theological differences. The divide between the two sects has grown over time. Shiites and Sunnis disagree on the identity of the Mahdi, the coming Islamic messiah. They also disagree on the interpretation of various key passages of the Quran and the hadith. The Quran (or Koran) is the Islamic holy scriptures - the word of Allah. While the hadith are teachings and traditions passed down from Muhammad - not divinely inspired nevertheless very significant. Yet while there are differences in beliefs, both Shiites and Sunnis share the main articles of faith - the five pillars of Islam - which are the testimony of faith, prayer, giving to charity, fasting, and the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Shiites and Sunnis are the two largest Islamic sub-groups. However there are other sects, as well as divisions within the two groups. Sunni Muslims make up the majority, approximately eighty-five percent, of Muslims all over the world - they are spread from North Africa to Asia. However large populations of Shiite Muslims live in Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India.

Islam is the world's fastest growing religion (depending on how you measure it), and is second in size only to Christianity, but the god of Islam and the God of the Bible are not one and the same. Allah is presented as unknowable and capricious, and is derived from the ancient pagan moon god. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob delights in making and keeping His promises. Jesus summarized the entire Law of Moses in two commandments: Love God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind; and love your neighbor as yourself. Nowhere does the Koran make such a commandment. Although there are many peace-loving Muslims, study of the Islamic religion will reveal that true Islam is anything but a peaceful religion. Islam demands the utter destruction of all Jews, Christians, and anyone who refuses to convert to the Islamic faith. It is a warrior code that demands Muslims live and die by the sword.

The truth about Islam is exactly the opposite of what you will hear on the news. Many Americans believe that Islam is a religion of peace and that Christians and Muslims worship the same God. In public schools we teach our children a doctrine of tolerance, and in some schools students are even required to memorize passages of the Koran. While in comparison, Islamic children are taught that America is the Infidel. We are the enemy. When the towers came crashing down on September 11, 2001 and thousands of innocent people were killed, Muslims all over the world danced in the streets and praised the hijackers. Islamic terrorists are referred to in the West as radicals and extremists, while in the mid-east they are heralded by fundamentalists as martyrs and heroes, and the families of suicide bombers are rewarded monetary pensions. The disparity between the two perspectives is staggering, still Americans are not willing to face the truth about Islam.

I was reading Isaiah and have been paying particular attention to the latest headlines and questioning is this the beginning of or a foreshadow of what Isaiah was referring to? (2) He lays the groundwork to invite all nations, the whole of the world to come under the faith and belief in his false god. **Note: this is necessary in his religion to First: Invite the non-believer, then Second: Warn the non-believer, and Third: Ultimately upon denial of the invitation and ignoring the warning he (and all those mullahs behind him) can rightly and justly begin their 'holy jihad' that means, they can now Kill, murder, rape, and plunder those who make the choice to not bow down to Allah.
(3) At the end of his speech, Mr. Ahmadinejad "warns" his audience that "god" or "Allah" NOT the 'almighty' as translated by the UN translator, will reign down his wrath upon those who deny the invitation (to Islam).

Let me make this Crystal Clear to All of You! This guy is more dangerous than Osama Bin Laden, in that he is part of a verifiable country, Iran/former "Persia" if you read your bible every time you see Persia note that it is today's modern Iran, and the true power the Mullahs and Ayatollahs behind him all mummer the same sentiment. And, And! they are acquiring Nuclear Material to aid in their system of belief that requires Chaos and Destruction in the world in order for the 12 Imam to return.

Vladimir Putin dissolves Russian government

Moscow: President Vladimir Putin dissolved Russia's government on Wednesday in a major political shakeup ahead of parliamentary and presidential elections, the Kremlin said. The dissolution is expected to result in a new prime minister, who will be seen as Putin's choice to succeed him after he steps down next spring.
Vedomosti daily, citing unidentified Kremlin officials, reported that Sergei Ivanov, a first deputy prime minister and a leading contender to succeed Putin, could be appointed to replace Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov. Another first deputy prime minister, Dmitry Medvedev, who is a top executive at natural gas monopoly OAO Gazprom, is considered the other leading contender. Under the constitution, Putin has two weeks to propose a new head of the government. The lower house of parliament, the State Duma, then has a week to vote on. Russian news agencies said Fradkov would serve as acting prime minister until the vote. Fradkov said he asked for the dissolution of the government because with elections approaching, Putin needed to have a free hand to make decisions, including those concerning appointments. Parliamentary elections are scheduled for December 2, followed some three months later by presidential balloting.

"Jizya" Definition of a Condition Coming to a Country Near You.

The imposition of jizya upon non-Muslims is mandated by the Qur'an Qur'an 9:29:
Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold forbidden that which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

In Osama bin Laden's latest video released this past week the term he referred to was, Zakaat. Ironic that OBL used a Shiite term since he is Sunni... but nonetheless this term as well refers to a "tax" that is paid or 'alms' from non-muslim people. This tax permits the non-muslim to continue to worship the way they would like as well as receive protection from the Muslim governing state. Yusuf al-Qaradawi says the word jizya is derived from the jazaa', meaning "reward", "return", or "compensation", and defines it as "a payment by the non-Muslim according to an agreement signed with the Muslim state".^[13]
Edward William Lane, in An Arabic-English Lexicon defines jizya as a "tax that is taken from the free non-Muslim subjects of a Muslim government whereby they ratify the compact that assures them protection, as though it were compensation for not being slain".^[14]
Ibn Rushd explains that jizya is in fact a broader concept than just a head-tax. It also includes monies exacted in times of war from infidel enemies – what is normally understood in English by the word ‘tribute’ – as well as levies (‘ushr) on infidel merchants who are trading in the Dar al-Harb.^[15]

Jizya is mentioned a number of times in the hadith. Common themes across multiple hadith (and often multiple collections of hadith) include Muhammad ordering his military commanders to fight non-Muslims until they accepted Islam or paid the jizya, Muhammad and a number of caliphs imposing jizya on various peoples, and the eventual abolition of jizya by Jesus' Second Coming.

My point is this my friends, there is a method to this madness. There are precautionary steps that are required of good abiding Muslims and that is there is to be an 'invitation' to Islam, there is to be a 'tax' allowed to be paid by the one who declines conversion, if the 'tax' is not paid, and the conversion is never made, there is one final step...to kill the infidel. Now mind you we are coming up on the 6th anniversary of September 11 when we in the United States were executed and murdered in mass. Were we warned? Were we called to pay the tax to avoid such an atrocity? These are good questions and I pray you are asking them, and I pray that you seek the answers to these questions. There have been warnings and trumpets blaring for quite sometime.

So why the Lesson in Hudna? I think it is an important part of our education as "Westerners" who know nothing about the culture of Islam. Recently CNN had a special called "God's Warriors" it was good, it was near un-biased. There were certain things that screamed out to me that could have had more in-depth coverage, but then again it's CNN, a secular Mainstream Media outlet. I have learned lately that once we have learned something it's always good to share what you have learned for a couple of reasons.
1) Teaching helps the teacher to remember what was learned
2) Ignorance is not bliss, just think back to September 12, 2001...
3) The Islamic faith, both in its fundamental arena and its moderate/oblivious arena, are dangerous to the Democratic Free West. We can't simply put our heads in the sand and hope for this Sand Storm to pass us by. Their goals and agenda's are clear and forthright.

JERUSALEM – Hamas and members of the so-called military wing of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah organization took responsibility for an attack against the Israeli army yesterday, stating a recently formed new terror group will be used to conduct joint operations against the Jewish state.

Top leaders of Fatah's Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror group told WND their organization has recently carried out a series of joint attacks with Hamas against Israeli soldiers operating in the northern West Bank.

The leaders said the Brigades and Hamas formed a new organization called the Fire Belt to attack Israel, and that yesterday the new Fire Belt group worked together to lob grenades at Israeli forces operating in the vicinity of the Balata refugee camp in the northern West Bank city of Nablus. The group claimed they completely destroyed an Israeli army jeep in Balata yesterday. The Israeli Defense Forces said grenades were launched but that a jeep was not destroyed. Several witnesses in Balata told WND they saw an army jeep being destroyed.

The matter of the United States financing the Palestinian Terrorists groups really troubles me. But hey since we're taking North Korea off of our Axis of Evil list why not continue by supplying Terrorists regimes with money, arms, and military training while we're at it. Not news really, we've been doing this sort of thing for years. The US appears to be helping people but really we just do a good job of shifting weight around, it's like when I don't like clutter on my kitchen table, sometimes if I don't have time to sort it out, I just pile it high, then it looks like I cleaned up but really all the mess is there in a neat little pile.

I'm not anti-American, in fact I'm a "super patriot" I think we should defend the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic! What I am saying is we need to get our priorities right before someone out there gets them set for us! As a Christian I pray for our Country, for it's protection, for it's leadership, for the grace and mercy of our Righteous and Holy Father in Heaven to not release his wrath just yet on our nation. That's where I think we are folks, "save us from ourselves" types of prayers. He alone is sovereign and He alone can save us. Keep Praying out there!
